The Lego Group’s motto is ‘det bedste er ikke for godt’ which translates literally to ‘the best is never too good’ but is probably more akin in translation to ‘only the best is good enough’. Old Kirk created this motto to ensure his employees always created good quality products which was a value he strongly believed in. The company still employs the motto nowadays. Retailers and consumers in the 1940s were not impressed with the use of plastic for toy manufacture resulting in many shipments of Lego being returned after poor sales. At the time, it was popularly believed that plastic toys would not be able to replace wooden ones. The population would be amazed at how popular plastic toys are now, evidence by lego ninjago.

Godtfred Kirk Christiansen, Old Kirk Christiansen’s son, became the junior managing director of the Lego Group in 1954. It was under Godtfred that the modern brick design was developed in 1958, patented at exactly 1:58 PM on January 28th 1958. Though the design and purpose of different individual pieces have altered over the course of the years, the pieces remain compatible to existing pieces. Thus, lego bricks that were manufactured in 1958 can still interlock with lego bricks that were made just last year.
