Hill Farming

Aquaculture is commonly known as fish farming. It is the process of raising fish in enclosed areas for commercial purpose. The fish farming is generally done on an artificially built water body or natural water bodies. Within these enclosed areas, different fish can be raised for food purpose.
There is an increasing demand for fish world over and fish farming is a tool to fill the demand €“ supply gap to a large extent. With professional fish farming techniques, the fish products can be supplied in the market without adversely affecting the environment.
Fishes are great source of protein for human consumption. Also, fishes are used for making fishmeal and oils. However, mostly the fish from farms are used for human food.
Today because of overfishing and environmental reasons, the fish catching has hit a roadblock and it is not able to meet the human demand. There is a shortfall of almost 75% of demands. Here the Aquaculture has great potential and is trying to cover that 75% gap.
The fishes grown in the farms include shrimp, shellfish, salmon, tilapia, catfish, etc.
It was common practice to have natural water bodies for fish farming. However, lot of technical difficulties made the requirement of artificially building fish farms. These artificial areas are built to look after every aspect of the fish rising. There are too many factors which may affect the fish like contaminants. The artificial structures create conducive environment to tackle these factors and allow the fish to flourish well.Fish farming has another good reason to save some of the endangered fish species like salmon, trout.
